Volunteering

A community of people, working together.

The Priory requires a huge amount of work to maintain and to run this historic site. This could not be undertaken without the help and support from an extraordinary group of helpers. Some may offer an hour a week and some considerably more, but all help is very much appreciated.

Volunteering is open to anyone in the community who wants to give their time to help out – you don’t have to be a regular at the church. You’ll get the chance to spend time in this stunning building, make a difference in the community and become part of the ongoing story of the Priory.

We have a variety of volunteering opportunities including welcoming, guiding, being a steward, cleaning and being a member of the voluntary choir. If you think you might be interested in joining our welcoming body of volunteers then take a look at our live opportunities below and please do get in touch via our contact form.

Volunteering Opportunities

The Priory stewards have a hugely important role in the Priory – their warm welcome and helpfulness in dealing with an astonishing range of queries is second to none. We are always pleased to add new names to the rota not just from our congregation but also from the wider community. The task is not onerous and full training will be given and, if you’re interested in joining us, we promise you’ll meet a fascinating mix of people as well as really getting to know this special building and the people who make up its community.

Every Wednesday, between April and October the Priory offers drop in guided tours of the Priory at 11am and 2pm. We also welcome pre-booked tours of all sizes throughout the year at any time and on any day of the week. Our tour guides come from all walks of life and continue to learn about the Priory themselves as they introduce visitors to the history and architecture of the Priory. It is a wonderful way of engaging with curious and friendly people from all over the country and the world. If you think that guiding others round this great building would suit you, we’ll be very pleased to tell you more.

If you are a qualified flower arranger or would simply like to help out, the flower arranging team would be delighted to hear from you. There are flowers to be arranged throughout the building every week (not during Lent) as well as flowers for special occasions.
